Become A Volunteer
Volunteers have been a vital and integral part of this organisation since its inception in 1990 and they remain central to our ability to deliver the services we provide to assist the vulnerable in society.
Volunteers currently play key roles in assisting service delivery across all service and operational areas of Open Support, with the exception of our domestic violence crisis accommodation service, Safe Haven. Currently we have just over 200 volunteers and around 30 paid staff.
All Open Support volunteers must meet the following requirements:
– Be 18 years of age or over
– Be a resident of Australia
– Pass a National Police Check
– Apply for and pass a Working with Children Check
Student Placement Program Volunteers must meet all the above requirements, and:
– Be currently enrolled in an accredited tertiary institution
– Undertake their volunteer role as part of their course curriculum requirement
All potential Open Support volunteers are interviewed and referee checks are conducted prior to placement in an appropriate and, importantly, enjoyable role. Once placed, volunteers are required to sign Open Support’s Volunteer Agreement and abide by our Privacy Confidentiality Policies and the St Vincent’s Health Australia Code of Conduct. Schools and Corporate Volunteers must also meet certain requirements which are based on individual school and business agreements and arrangements.
