Domestic and family violence (DFV) during pregnancy affects around one in seven women in Australia, with many experiencing increased challenges during this time. The impact can be life changing for both mother and baby, influencing health, wellbeing and early development.

Leaving a difficult situation during pregnancy is never easy, particularly at a time of heightened vulnerability and uncertainty. Over the past two years, Open Support has walked alongside women taking this courageous step, providing safe accommodation and ongoing support.

During this time, four babies were born while their mothers were in our care, with several more infants supported after their families sought safety. With stability, care and compassion, these children have been given the opportunity to grow and thrive alongside their mothers in a safe and nurturing environment.
