Charlie* is a 50-year-old man who is a successful academic and artist but who had struggled for years with crippling loneliness. He knew that long term loneliness could result in chronic and serious health issues and had tried counselling and psychotherapy. This did not work for him, and he became increasingly anxious and isolated.

Charlie was referred to Open Support where he worked with a specialist Case Manager to find groups, activities and connections that aligned to his interests and might help him. They found a group and that became a safe space for Charlie while he was feeling so vulnerable.

Charlie loved his first meeting, and soon started making friends. Open Support helped Charlie find other groups that were meaningful to him and where he felt confident and safe. With time and ongoing support, Charlie is now enjoying connecting with other people and enjoying life – he is no longer lonely!
